The In Progress stage is the biggest change in the new pipeline. It's where candidates go once you've decided to move them forward from Applied, and it's where the bulk of your hiring work takes place — interviews, background checks, assessments, offer letters, and more.
In this article, we will cover:
Column View and List View
In Column View, hiring steps appear as columns and each candidate appears in the column for their current step. In List View, the same In Progress candidates appear in a list. Use the view selector to switch between the two layouts.
When selecting all candidates for a bulk action, choose whether it applies to candidates on the current page or across all pages. You can also mark candidates as Needs Review, filter for them, and share a list with hiring managers.
Sub-Statuses
Each candidate in the column view shows a status to indicate what needs to happen next:
- Not Started — The candidate has been placed in a step, but no action has been taken yet (for example, a background check has not yet been ordered). For interviews, this appears as Not Scheduled.
- Pending Candidate Action — You’ve sent something to the candidate and are waiting for them to respond or complete an action.
- Pending Completion — The step is in progress and waiting for a third party to complete it (for example, a background check is being processed). For interviews, this can appear as Scheduled at a date and time.
- Awaiting Decision — The step is complete (for example, an interview has been scored) and the candidate is ready to be advanced or declined.
- Ready for Review — A completed background check is waiting for a team member to review it. After review, the status changes to Completed and displays the reviewer’s name and review time.
Taking Action from the Drawer
Selecting a candidate in In Progress opens the Candidate Drawer at the relevant hiring step, with the next action ready. The updated drawer provides more room for the hiring workflow and includes quick comments and tags.
Scheduling an Interview
From the drawer, you can send an interview scheduling link, offer multiple time options manually without a synced calendar, or manually add interview details. Panel interviews support multiple interviewers for individual and bulk scheduling; panelists can be marked required or optional.
You can resend scheduling-link reminders and view link expiration dates. Interview cancellation emails can be optional. Calendar invite titles and details have been updated, hiring-team members are CC’d on interview emails by default, and interview rescheduling is easier to find. Manually record completed interviews when needed. Time-zone handling for interviews has also been improved.
Interviewers can access the candidate’s resume in the interview scoring experience.
Ordering Reference Checks / Testing Services
You can order or view results from reference checks or testing services from In Progress. Select the candidate’s name and choose Order Reference Checks or Order More Tests to select a service and complete the order. If reports are available, you can view them in the Candidate Drawer.
Completing a Checklist
Checklists can be added in both In Progress and Pre-Hire. Complete the checklist step in the Candidate Drawer.
Sending an Offer Letter
Offer letters can be sent from the Candidate Drawer when the candidate is in the offer-letter step. Offer letters can include a pay-rate range, depending on the offer-letter setup.
Drag and Drop
You can drag and drop candidates between hiring-step columns to move them through the process. This is useful if you prefer to manually track candidate progress without integrated scheduling or ordering features. You can complete a step at any time and work on multiple steps simultaneously; candidates are not locked into a linear progression.
