A high-quality job search experience is central to Indeed’s mission and includes a process that ensures search results for job seekers are free of spam, predatory offers, and misleading listings. Jobs flagged for possible violations of search quality guidelines are held for review before being made visible in search results. Keep Job Titles Clear & Concise
Job titles should be just that - the title of the job with no extra information, clickbait, or eye-catching symbols. You can hire multiple candidates from one job posting but the job title should read as though it’s for one person.
- Avoid general recruitment: Job titles should indicate a single opening for one position.
- Leave out additional information: Details related to employment type, compensation, location, benefits, etc should not be included in the job title.
- Use title case, not all capital letters.
Disclose Compensation Information
Many states will soon mandate that pay ranges are disclosed for open jobs and some states already require it. Indeed supports these pay transparency practices by prominently displaying the compensation details employers provide.
When pay information is not included for jobs, Indeed uses data from similar jobs in the area to provide an estimated salary. Compensation information provided by employers overrides estimated salary ranges, so this is another good reason to be sure you're including it!
Write Effective Job Descriptions
Job descriptions are where you can and should include the particulars a qualified candidate would search for as well as other details you think are important. Indeed will reject any job descriptions that are too short or that they deem poor quality.
- Include at least several sentences, your company overview, benefits/perks, day-to-day responsibilities, and qualifications/requirements.
- Do not include keywords or reference self-employment and commission-only salaries in the job description.
- Relocation details can be included only if these conditions are met:
- The employer pays the relocation costs, at least in part.
- The position is only advertised where the actual job is located (i.e. you cannot post a job opening with relocation expenses paid in San Francisco, CA if the actual location of the job is Scottsdale, AZ).
Specify the Job Location
Posted jobs should list specific and accurate employment location details. Indeed does not permit jobs that are posted outside of the true working location. Most job sites have a default 25-mile search radius but this can be increased or decreased by job seekers.
- Indeed will flag two identical jobs as spam if they are posted by the same company and within 25 miles of each other.
- References to relocation are only permitted in job descriptions if relocation costs are covered, at least in part, by the employer and the job is posted only in the address where the job is located (i.e. you cannot post a job opening with relocation expenses paid in San Francisco, CA if the actual location of the job is Scottsdale, AZ).
Jobs posted as 'Remote' do not require address information to be included. Remote jobs are displayed in nationwide search results.
Don’t Try to Game the System
Like other search engines, Indeed uses an algorithm to provide the most relevant content in response to searches. Listings that attempt to exploit these principles by reposting jobs within a short timeframe or opening roles in more locations than the job is offered for increased visibility are in violation of Indeed's policies and risk being removed from organic search results.
What Happens Next?
When you open a job in your Hireology account with public visibility, it will be picked up by our XML feed and sent to Indeed. It can take up to 24 hours for newly opened jobs to appear on Indeed, provided the postings meet their guidelines. If after 14 days you are still unable to locate your job on Indeed, you may reach out to Indeed support for assistance.
