Applicants and Candidates are similar but there are a few key differences in the way Hireology views them. Since the ultimate goal is to make a hire, it's important to understand what actions can be taken on Applicants and Candidates to reach either a Hire or Decline decision.
In this article we will cover:
Defining Applicants
An Applicant is someone who has voluntarily expressed interest in a role with your company by submitting an application. Whether they've applied via your career site, a job site, or anywhere else you've shared your jobs, everyone who submits an application will enter into Hireology as an Applicant. Note: You can also add applicants manually and would generally do so for someone who is interested in the job but has not applied through your Hireology jobs. Applicants will appear under the 'Applicants' tab of the job they applied for.
Applicants can be prescreened using the Prescreen Surveys available in your account. These surveys are automatically scored to help you quickly determine how to prioritize your applicant queue.
The goal when reviewing applicants is to identify which possess the minimum qualifications for the job and should be Advanced to the next stage of the process, and which are not qualified and should be Declined.
Defining Candidates
When an Applicant meets the minimum qualifications for a job, you can click 'Advance' to move them to the Candidate stage. The person will now appear under the 'Candidates' tab of the job they applied for.
Once someone becomes a Candidate, the options you selected in your Hiring Steps when opening the job become available. These options will depend on what you selected but typically include things like Interviews, Background Checks, Reference Checks, and / or Assessments.
After a Candidate has been evaluated through the Hiring Steps, you should either Decline them, if they are not the right fit for the job, or Hire them, if you've found the right person.
